Derry L. York has been an Oregon Licensed Polygraph Examiner since 2001 when he graduated
from Western Oregon University School of Polygraph. He received his bachelors' degree
from Portland State University in Administration of Justice and is a member of Alpha
Pi Sigma, Criminal Justice Honor Society. He has been certified by the American Polygraph
Association for Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring examinations since 2003. In
2008 he was
appointed to the Polygraph Licensing Advisory Committee of the Oregon Department
of Public Safety Standards and Training.
He was an Oregon Licensed Investigator for 13 years, handling state and federal criminal
defense investigations, and was a police officer in Longview, Washington for 10 years.
He is a full member of the American Polygraph Association, the American Association
of Police Polygraphists, and the Northwest Polygraph Examiners Association. He has
been certified by the American Polygraph Association for post-conviction sex offender
He has participated as a co-instructor regarding use of polygraph in presentations
to probation and parole officers and treatment providers. He has participated as
a co-instructor on use of polygraph in domestic violence supervision and treatment,
and to probation and parole officers and treatment providers through Washington County
Treatment Services. He has provided expert witness testimony on polygraph analysis
and use in various Oregon courts.
He was a co-author of the current post-conviction polygraph policies for testing
sex offenders in Multnomah County. He was a guest speaker for Oregon Sex Offender
Supervision Network in 2010. He has been interviewed as an expert on polygraph by
television, radio, and newspapers.
